Raleigh, N.C. and Vero Beach, Fla. – November 17, 2017 – The Advanced Center for Surgery, a freestanding surgery center located in Vero Beach, Fla., completed its first total outpatient shoulder replacement surgery case in November, 2017. Dr. Erin Forest of Vero Orthopaedics & Neurology completed the surgery.
The Advanced Center for Surgery (ACS) has developed clinical protocols specifically designed to support outpatient total joint replacement surgery for qualified patients. Advancements in pre and post-operative care, anesthesia protocols, and pain management techniques allow ACS to safely perform these surgeries in the convenient, comfortable, and lower cost environment of the surgery center. Outpatient total joints represent a growing trend in the industry. There was a 47 percent increase in elective outpatient hip and knee replacement procedures nationally between 2012 and 2015. Additionally, it is estimated that volumes knee and hip replacement procedures will increase 457 percent and 633 percent, respectively, over the next decade.1 Total shoulder replacement should follow a similar trend, with an increasing number of procedures being conducted in the outpatient setting, many of which will migrate to the convenient, same-day surgery setting of a freestanding surgery center.
