Raleigh, N.C. and Tampa, Fla. – March 5, 2019 – In late 2018, Compass Surgical Partners and a group of physicians formed a new partnership called Legacy Surgery Center (LSC) and acquired Elite Surgery Center, an existing ambulatory surgery center in Tampa. The center is located at 6918 Gunn Highway in Tampa and includes three operating rooms designed to support advanced orthopedic and spine surgery.
The state-of-the-art center was opened in 2014 with the intent of becoming a destination for advanced outpatient surgery in the Bay Area. The center, initially designed for spine and orthopedic surgery, and is centrally located and convenient to Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Tampa International Airport.
The newly formed partnership will focus on using the surgery center to expand access to patients across the area in its existing specialties, but also in new specialties such as vascular and cardiovascular services. Dr. Peter Mikhail, a cardiothoracic surgeon with a wide range of procedural expertise, will be joining the partnership and will use the surgery center to provide efficient, low cost, high-value vascular procedures. While many peripheral vascular and cardiovascular interventions are safe for the outpatient setting, many of these procedures are completed at the hospital today, creating unnecessary costs and inconvenience for patients. By partnering with Dr. Mikhail, LSC plans to build a regionally leading outpatient center for endovascular and cardiovascular interventions.
In addition to Dr. Mikhail, several other new physician partners, including spine surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, and pain management specialists have joined the partnership.
